Merino wool base layer, wind proof gillet or jersy,water proof jacket preferably one you can pack away, gloves, head band or skull cap. whatever you like to wear on you legs as long as you are comfortable, Don't wear a cotton t-shirt it may seem like a good idea on those cold mornings but as soon as you sweat you will regret it. The ever important helmet. Don't forget your bike...very important that bit! Oh you can use a buff as a headband/scull cap or to keep the draft from round your neck it will save you cash.

hi all am james and am just starting out and is looking for advice and tips for the best way forwards and hows best to tackle this cold weather what to wear and what not to wear, etc.
